Ancient Tree Verifier (UK)
Our Ancient Tree Verifiers verify the records which are added or updated by members of the public on the Ancient Tree Inventory (ATI) website. This involves visiting and recording ancient, veteran and notable trees, and checking that the records in your local area are as up to date as possible. By adding to and checking the accuracy of the data submitted by the general public, you will be adding to a dataset which already boasts over 200,000 records, helping to keep the largest ancient and tree database in the UK up to date and alive!
We hope to recruit verifiers who are already familiar with the Ancient Tree Inventory, have an affinity for ancient trees and have ideally recorded many trees on the ATI website. We have a minimum requirement of verifying 3-10 trees every 3 months, as we appreciate some people may volunteer more seasonally. This is to make sure our network stays active and knowledgeable about the ATI.
Not all trees will require a visit depending on information given by recorders, but substantial travel may be involved, from a 10 mile up to a 50 mile radius. Whilst you'll mainly be volunteering by yourself in this role, we offer regular webinars and occasional regional events, further training and the chance to network with other passionate verifiers.
We’re primarily looking for verifiers in South Wales, North Scotland, greater London, and near the Lake district. If you’re not based in these locations, feel free to still apply!
Please note that online training sessions for this role will be held on 24th April, 1st May, 8th May and 15th May, in the evening from 6-8.30pm. We strongly recommend attendance to all of these, however there will be the chance to rewatch recordings, if necessary.
