Tree Seed Collection Volunteer (Gleann Shìldeag, Wester Ross)
As one of our seed collection volunteers, you will collect seeds from native trees for use in Woodland Trust woodland creation activity, either at Gleann Shìldeag itself or other sites close by.
For this role we need you to be based within 30 miles maximum from our site and be available during the collection season which generally runs from May to November, although we don't expect you to be able to attend every collection.
Sometimes you will attend organised surveys and collections run by your volunteer manager whereas on other occasions you may carry out surveys and collections on your own once you have received the relevant training.
Your collected seeds will either be sent on for processing, or in some cases you may be involved with processing and growing on the seeds at the Woodland Trust tree nursery at Couldoran.
Collecting tree seeds is a really enjoyable activity and you don't need any experience or specialist knowledge to carry out this role - training will be given. Some knowledge of native tree species ID would be helpful but is not essential.
You will be provided with specialist equipment to assist with collection, processing and postage of seeds as required.
U18s need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times for this role, and parents / legal guardians need to be registered for this role too.
To achieve our vision of a world where woods and trees thrive for people and nature, we need to better reflect society and the communities we work in. All people, no matter their background, identity, ability, or circumstance, should benefit from trees. People of colour and disabled people are currently under-represented across the environment and conservation sector. If you identify as a person of colour and/or disabled, we particularly encourage you to apply. Please contact us to discuss any additional support or adjustments you may need to complete your application.
